Alliston stings Patriots in overtime for 2-0 lead in series

MOUNT FOREST – Drake Board’s unassisted goal 2:13 into overtime gave the Alliston Hornets a 3-2 victory over the Mount Forest Patriots Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The win put Alliston ahead 2-0 in the best-of-seven Provincial Junior Hockey League North Conference final.

Alliston shot ahead early with the lone goal of the first period and Mount Forest tied it almost exactly a period later.

The Patriots went up 2-1 on Ryley Cribbin’s goal with 4:02 to go in regulation time.

However, Stephen Nosad forced the overtime when he scored for the Hornets with 1:29 to go.

Devon Gillham had scored for Alliston in the first period and Michael Stefanelli replied in the second for Mount Forest.

Troy Weber, Troy Oakley, Blair Butchart and Dylan Brown each had one assist for the Patriots while Matt Taylor, John Gage and Board had assists for the Hornets.

Alliston outshot the Patriots 44-35 and both teams were scoreless on their power plays. The Hornets had two, the Patriots four.

Mathieu Oullette took the loss in net for Mount Forest while Matthew Nixon had the win for Alliston.

Third game of the series is set for Sunday at Alliston. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
