Baseball Gryphons sweep doubleheader to vault over Western

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons swept an OUA baseball doubleheader from the Western Mustangs Friday at Hastings Stadium.

The Gryphs took the opening game 6-2 and the second match 3-2.

Details were not available.

With the wins the Gryphs complete the regular season at 11-7.

The Laurier Golden Hawks and Toronto Varsity Blues are both at 11-5 while the Brock Badgers are at 10-4, Queen’s Gaels are at 10-6 and Western finishes its regular season at 10-8. McMaster Marauders are at 9-7.

The league’s regular season is to wrap up Saturday.

The championship tournament is to be hosted by the Waterloo Warriors at the Ajax Sportsplex Oct. 19 to 21.

All 11 teams qualify for the tournament and are seeded in order of finish in the regular season.

Semifinals and gold-medal game are set for Oct. 21.
