Bears drop Royals to open their boys’ hockey season
GUELPH – The Orangeville Bears struck for three goals in each of the first two periods to top the Ross Royals 8-1 in District 4/10 high schools boys’ hockey play Thursday at the West End arena.
The game was the D4/10 season opener for the Bears while the loss was the second in two league games for the Royals.
Orangeville led 3-0 at the end of the first period and 6-1 at the end of the second, aided by a pair of goals 24 seconds apart early in the second. Their two third-period goals came 66 seconds apart early in the frame.
Cam Knight scored for Ross with 5:19 to go in the second to make the score 5-1 at the time. Calvin Fogler and Liam Weir picked up assists.
Andy Whitton, Brendan Chapman and Dakota Zarundy scored twice apiece for Orangeville while Kyle Waters and Cole Teeple added single goals. Owen Buckley had two assists while Zarundy, Jake Quinlin, Ben Ferguson and Chapman had one each.
Erin 7 Bishop Macdonell 3
Chris Ferri connected for a pair of goals for Erin while Liam Galton, Liam McGill, Jake Cuthbert, Trevor Griffiths and Matt Collette added single goals. McGill assisted on three of the goals while Aidan Hodgson, Collette and Galton each had one assist.
Cole Martin scored all three goals for Bishop Mac. Ian Alexander, Brendan Gill and Jeremy Lightbourne each had one assist.
