Bears hockey boys clip Spartans to move into a tie for first

GUELPH – The Orangeville Bears moved into a tie for first place in the District 4/10 high school boys’ hockey league with a 2-1 victory over the Centennial Spartans Thursday at Centennial arena.

Both Orangeville and the Centre Wellington Falcons head into the Christmas break with 10 points, one more than the Norwell Varsity Reds and two more than the Erin Raiders. The Falcons have a game in hand on both Orangeville and Erin and two games on Norwell.

Centre Wellington has a 5-0-0-0 record while Orangeville’s at 5-1-0-0, Norwell’s at 4-2-1-0 and Erin’s at 4-2-0-0.

The Ross Royals are tops of the Guelph squads at 3-3-0-0 and they’re followed by the Guelph CVI Green Gaels at 2-4-0-1, Bishop Macdonell Celtics at 0-3-1-1 and Centennial at 0-5-0-1.

Brendan Chapman and Kyle Whitton had a goal apiece for Orangeville in the win over Centennial while Zach Goodchild scored for the Spartans.

League play resumes with Centennial and Bishop Mac playing Jan. 9.
