Bishop Mac Celtics take aim at OFSAA gold

HUNTSVILLE – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics will be going for gold in the OFSAA provincial high schools girls’ AA basketball championship tournament late Saturday afternoon.

The third-seed Celtics are to play the top-seed Frontenac Falcons of Kingston in the gold-medal match Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Bishop Mac advanced to the championship game with a 62-54 victory over the Lo-Ellen Park Knights of Sudbury in the semifinals Saturday morning.

The Celtics jumped ahead early as they led 15-8 at the end of the first quarter. Bishop Mac was up 30-22 at the half and 45-39 after three quarters.

Grace Drewry led the Celtics with 19 points.

Frontenac gained its berth in the final by running to a 60-26 win over the fourth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish of Burlington in the other semifinal.

Lo-Ellen Park and Notre Dame are to meet in the bronze-medal match.
