Bishop Mac in CWOSSA A/AA boys’ hockey semifinal

RIPLEY – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics have reached the semifinals at the CWOSSA high school A/AA boys’ hockey championship tournament after they split their two pool-play games Monday.

Bishop Mac was handed a 5-2 setback by the St. David Celtics of Waterloo in their opening game, but rebounded with a 4-2 win over the Paris Panthers.

In the game against St. David, the teams went scoreless through the first period before St. David netted three goals in the second. The two Celtics both scored twice in the third.

Trent DiCicco and Matthew Maldonado scored for Bishop Mac while Brendan Bauer and Zachary Gladding each scored twice for St. David and Ryan Suljak added the other goal.

Against Paris, Bishop Mac led 2-1 at the end of the first and 3-2 after the second.

Jacob Fries hit for a pair of goals for Bishop Mac while Reed Kurtz and Michael Pollard each scored once. Jake Zavitz and Nolan Underwood scored for Paris.

Bishop Mac is to play the Sacred Heart Crusaders of Walkerton in a semifinal Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Tiverton arena. The other semifinal between St. David and the Holy Trinity Titans of Simcoe is to be played at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre, also at 10 a.m.

Semifinal winners are to meet in the final at Kincardine at 2 p.m.
