Bishop Mac surprises Norwell in boys’ hockey playoff opener

PALMERSTON – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics remained hot as they posted a surprise in the opening game of the District 4/10 high school boys’ hockey league quarter-finals Wednesday at the Palmerston arena.

One of the hottest teams in the league since the Christmas break, the fifth-place Celtics dropped the fourth-place Norwell Varsity Reds 7-4.

Cole Martin and Trent DiCicco had two goals apiece for Bishop Mac while Reed Kurtz, Ian Alexander and Lucas Wells added single goals.

Payton McIsaac scored twice for Norwell while Parker Miller and Cody Camm had the other goals.

Norwell had finished the regular season at 4-3-2-0 while the Celtics were at 3-4-1-1. The teams had 2-2 in Guelph Dec. 19 and that game set the stage for the 2018 portion of Bishop Mac’s regular season as they went 3-1-0-0 to move up the standings.
