Bishop Mac sweeps into AA boys’ soccer semifinals

PARIS – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics swept their three games in pool play Wednesday to move on to Thursday’s semifinals at the CWOSSA AA high school senior boys’ soccer championship tournament at Paris District High School.

The Celtics finished in first in their pool after defeating the Galt CI Ghosts of Cambridge 3-1, Westside Thunder of Orangeville 2-1 and Sacred Heart Crusaders of Walkerton 3-0.

John Brousseau had two goals in the win over Galt CI while Ian Alexander had the other goal.

Alexander and Joseph Raso scored in the win over Westside.

Scorers in the victory over Sacred Heart were not reported.

Westside finished second in the pool due to a better goals-for-and-against ratio than Sacred Heart. Both the Thunder and Crusaders finished at 1-1-1 while Galt CI was at 0-3-0.

St. David Celtics of Waterloo finished atop the other pool with a 3-0-0 record. They were followed by the St. Mary’s Mustangs of Owen Sound in second at 2-1-0, Paris Panthers third at 1-2-0 and Holy Trinity Titans of Simcoe in fourth at 0-3-0.

Thursday’s 10 a.m. semifinals pit Bishop Mac against St. Mary’s and Westside against St. David. Victors advance to the 2 p.m. final.
