Bostad takes first Stroke & Stride race
GUELPH – Billy Bostad of Guelph won the opening adult race of the Speedo Foods Stroke and Stride series at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area Wednesday.
Bostad finished the event in 43 minutes, 38.1 seconds to finish more than three minutes ahead of runner-up Mike Coughlin of Guelph. Hamilton’s Maveric Croucher was third, just over two minutes behind Coughlin.
The event featured 1,500 metres of swimming and a five-kilometre run.
It was the first race of the series that holds swim-run races the first Wednesday of the summer months. The July races are also to be at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area while the August and September races are to be at Gulliver’s Lake in Puslinch.
Other race winners were Taylor Forbes in the 750m swim, 5km run in 26:26.5, Madeline Ongena of Elora in the 500m swim, 4km run in 24:41.7, Reegan Chinchilla of Copetown in the 300m swim, 3km run in 20:39.7, Abby Gerrard of Puslinch in the 200m swim, 2km run in 13:26.6, William Parsons of Guelph in the 100m swim, 1km run in 8:59.5 and Charlie Otten of St. George in the 50m swim, 500m run in 4:46.2.
