Brampton turns on power to drop Canes

BRAMPTON – The Guelph Hurricanes yielded four power-play goals as they were handed a 5-1 setback by the Brampton Bombes in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday night at Brampton Memorial Arena.

The Canes were limited to nine shots on goal after the first period and went 1-for-11 on their power play while the hosts went 4-for-7.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and Brampton scored twice in the second and twice in the final seven minutes of the game to claim the win.

Mathieu Mercier scored for the Canes with help from Anthony Mota and Tyler Harrison.

Kevin Paschalis hit for two goals for Brampton while Remy Dalben, Andrew Horsley and Patrick Del Vecchio scored once each. Ivan Brewer and Daniel Heelis each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Horsley, Travis Smith, Ryan Park, Alex Samari, Paschalis and Del Vecchio.

Brampton outshot the Canes 34-26.

Joshua Eisfeld made 25 saves for the win for Brampton while Jet Graves made 29 saves for the Canes.

The win allowed the Bombers to jump over the Canes and into sixth in the Midwestern Conference. Brampton is at 11-17-0-0 and Guelph is a point behind at 8-19-1-4.

For the Canes the game was the first of three in a row against the Bombers. They’re to play at Brampton again Dec. 22 and at the Sleeman Centre Dec. 23. Both games have 7:30 p.m. starting times.

Brampton is to host the conference-leading Listowel Cyclones Sunday afternoon.
