Brantford runs by Thistles in junior C lacrosse

FERGUS – A seven-goal run by the Brantford Warriors did in the Fergus Thistles as they fell 12-8 in Ontario junior C lacrosse league play Tuesday night at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.

The Thistles led 7-3 with seven minutes to go in the second period before Brantford started the scoring onslaught that would put the Warriors ahead 10-7 with seven and a half minutes to go in the third.

Fergus led 4-2 at the end of the first period and 7-5 after the second.

Brett Harrison had a hat trick for Fergus while Justin Beaulieu scored twice and Logan Cameron, Kyle Deitweiler and Nick Aitchison netted single goals. Noah Nixon, Adam Lantz, Cameron and Aitchison each had two assists while Eli McLeod, Deitweiler, Harrison, Carson Stevenson, Austin Roberts and Beaulieu had one each.

Caleb Wells connected for four gals for Brantford while Brayden Doxtator had three and Max Lewis, Kaleb Hess, Cooper Day-Allison, Blake Dunford and Donovan Welch each added one. Day-Allison, Wells, Welch and Ryan Dorr collected two assists apiece and Thomas Richards, Jaden Drage, Herman Wagnleithner, Dunford and Lewis each had one.

Brantford outshot the Thistles 48-43 and went 2-for-5 on its power play while the Thistles went 4-for-10.

Bobby Morrison was the winning netminder for Brantford while Nixon was charged with the loss for Fergus.

The result leaves both teams at .500 winning percentage – Fergus at 3-3-0 and Brantford at 2-2-0.

The Thistles are to host the Caledon Bandits (0-3-0) Friday at 8 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.
