Braves handed their fourth loss in five games
ORANGEVILLE – The Kitchener-Waterloo Braves were held to three goals in the game as they were handed a 5-3 setback by the Orangeville Northmen in Ontario junior A lacrosse league play Tuesday night at Orangeville’s Tony Rose Memorial Arena.
The Braves scored three in a row, two in the second period and one early in the third, but their hosts had already netted four goals by then. Orangeville led 3-0 at the end of the first and 4-2 a period later.
Scott DelZotto, who was acquired from the Northmen in a New Year’s Day deal, had a pair of goals for the Braves while Spencer Pyke scored the other one. Brody Mclean and Tye Kurtz collected two goals apiece while Trent DiCiccio and Devyn Orpana each had one assist.
Orangeville received a goal apiece from Jeff Henrick, Scott Dominey, Braydon Cresswell, Cam Mcdonald and Grant Scott. Jordan Caskenette and Scott each had two assists while Cresswell, Zak Deaken, Travis Brown, Dylan Watson and Curtis Bukta had one each.
The Northmen outshot the Braves 58-43, but were scoreless on two power plays while the Braves scored on their only power play.
Steve Orleman was charged with the loss in the K-W net. He made 53 saves. Rylan Hartley made 40 saves for the win for Orangeville.
The loss, the fourth in five games for the Braves, evens K-W’s record at 4-4-0 while Orangeville improves to 5-3-0.
The game was the first of four for the Braves this week. They’re to host the Six Nations Arrows (3-4-0) Thursday at 8 p.m. at Kitchener’s Kinsmen arena, play the Mimico Mountaineers (4-3-0) at Mimico arena Saturday at 8 p.m. and host the Whitby Warriors (4-5-0) Sunday at 7 p.m. at Kinsmen arena.
