Braves ousted from junior A playoffs

BRAMPTON – The Kitchener-Waterloo Braves saw their Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League season come to an end Wednesday when they were doubled 10-5 by the Brampton Excelsiors at Brampton’s Memorial Arena.

The result gave Brampton a three-game sweep in the best-of-five quarter-final playoff series.

Six unanswered goals in the second period pushed the Excelsiors into a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

The hosts scored the first three goals of the game, but the Braves rallied to tie the score 3-3 by the end of the first period. However, Brampton led 9-3 at the end of the second.

Damon Currie, Dawson McKenzie, Eric Radbourne, Jackson Reid and Cole Spear scored a goal apiece for K-W while Quinn Commandant had two assists. Getting one assist each were Zack Dybowski, McKenzie, John Nay, Reid, Jake Stevens and Kurtis Woodland.

Jake Boudreau had a hat trick for Brampton while Tyson Gibson added a pair of goals and Austin Hasen, Jeff Teat, Seth Van Schepen, James Whiteford and Mason Wright scored once each. Teat had four assists while Gibson had three, Hasen and Kyle Vince had two each and Tyler Biles, Andrew Borgatti, Travis Burton, Connor McClelland, Campbell Parker, Luke Van Schepen and Adam Wiedemann had one each.

Teat finished the three-game set with eight goals and 12 assists for Brampton while Gibson had five goals and eight assists.

Steven Orleman took the loss in net for the Braves while J.J. Jensen picked up the win for Brampton.

The Excelsiors await an opponent in the semifinals.
