Butchart’s third-period goals keep Patriots alive

MOUNT FOREST – Two goals by Pollock Division MVP Blair Butchart in the final six and a half minutes of the game Tuesday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex kept the Mount Forest Patriots alive in their Provincial Junior Hockey League North Conference final with the Stayner Siskins.

Those two goals capped a comeback by the Patriots that saw them rebound from a two-goal deficit to defeat Stayner 6-4. The Siskins lead the best-of-seven series 3-1.

Butchart finished the game with a hat trick and all three goals were scored in the third period. His first at 4:41 gave the Patriots their first lead of the game. After Stayner pulled even midway through the period, Butchart tallied with just less than six and a half minutes to go to put Mount Forest ahead for good. He completed the scoring in the game four minutes after that.

Brock Philips, Ryley Cribbin and Brendon Aitken scored the other goals for the Patriots. Cribbin and Hayden Coulter each had three assists while Brady Becker had two and Troy Weber, Klayton Hoelscher and Philips had one apiece.

Jordan Taylor, Lucas Jeffery, Joey Visconti and Ben Skuce hit for a goal apiece for Stayner and all were special teams’ goals – three on the power play and one shorthanded. Ben Hughes and Ty Kulba each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Visconti and Kyle Linney.

The Siskins outshot the Patriots 44-23 in the first two periods and 51-40 overall. Stayner went 3-for-8 on its power play while Mount Forest was scoreless on five power plays.

David Lobsinger collected the win in net for the Patriots while Marcus Semiao was charged with the loss in the Stayner net.

Fifth game of the series is set for Thursday at 8:10 p.m. at the Stayner Memorial Arena.
