Celtics blank Barrie North in OFSAA opener

BROOKLIN – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics opened the OFSAA A/AA high school girls’ rugby championship tournament with a 17-0 victory over the Barrie North Vikings Monday.

Christina Nadalin had two tries and a convert for Bishop Mac while Naomi Jakel also scored a try.

The Celtics are the 10th seeds in the provincial tournament while Barrie North are the seventh seeds.

With the win, Bishop Mac advances to play the second-seed Bayside Red Devils of Quinte West Tuesday at 10 a.m. Bayside defeated 15th-seed G.L. Roberts Lakers of Oshawa 34-5 Monday.

The tournament is to wrap up with medal games Wednesday.
