Celtics eighth at OFSAA A/AA girls’ rugby

OSHAWA – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics finished eighth in the OFSAA A/AA provincial high school girls’ rugby championship tournament Wednesday.

The Celtics were edged 22-17 by the Applewood Heights Axewomen of Mississauga in the consolation runner-up game. Bishop Mac entered the tournament seeded 10th while Applewood Heights was seeded ninth.

Christina Nadalin had a try and a convert while Kathleen Curran and Naomi Jakel each added a try.

Bishop Mac had been handed a 31-12 setback by the sixth-seeded Sutton Sabres in the consolation semifinals.

Nadalin scored two tries and a convert.

Sutton won the consolation final 31-10 over fifth-seeded St. Joseph’s Panthers of Cornwall.

Second-seeded Bayside Red Devils of Quinte West edged top-seeded Trenton Tigers  5-0 in the gold-medal match.
