Centennial Spartans eye home game in field hockey quarter-finals

ORANGEVILLE — The Centennial Spartans moved closer to securing a home game in the District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey league’s quarter-final playoffs with a win and a tie in league play Thursday.

The Spartans downed the Wellington Heights Wolverines of Mount Forest 4-0 and tied the Orangeville Bears 1-1.

Those results leave the Spartans fourth in the nine-team league. Top four host quarter-final matches.

The regular season is to finish Wednesday with every team scheduled to play twice that day.

The playoffs are to begin with the quarter-finals Oct. 17. The semifinals are set for Oct. 19 and the final is to go Oct. 24.

Erika Gilbert and Sydney Crichton scored twice apiece for Centennial while Sarah Dykstra was credited with the shutout.

Megan Rook had the goal for Orangeville.

Centennial’s goal scorer was not reported.
