Centre Dufferin advance to both D4 senior, junior boys’ hoops finals

SHELBURNE – The Centre Dufferin Royals and Westside Thunder are to meet to decide the District 4 high school senior boys’ basketball championship Tuesday after each scored semifinal victories Wednesday.

Centre Dufferin downed the Emmanuel Christian Eagles 59-27 while Westside defeated the Wellington Heights Wolverines 67-58.

Mark Taylor led the Royals with 17 points while Dorian Jeffrey-Jones had 11 and Shadame Hamilton added nine.

Brayden Taekema and Justin VanWoudenberg had eight points apiece for Emmanuel Christian.

Caleb Horn hit for 25 points for Westside while Jonathan Lyons followed with 22.

Eli McDougall-Cook had a game-high 32 for Wellington Heights and Brayden Allen contributed eight.

Centre Dufferin had finished first at the end of the regular season at a perfect 8-0 while Westside was second at 5-3, Wellington Heights third at 4-4 and Emmanuel Christian fourth at 2-6.

Centre Dufferin will be looking for its fourth consecutive D4 senior title, a streak that started after Westside won in 2014.

Tuesday’s championship match at Centre Dufferin is to begin at 2 p.m.

 

JUNIOR

Centre Dufferin and the Erin Raiders are to meet to decide the D4 junior champion Tuesday.

The Royals advanced to the final with an 84-20 whitewash of the Norwell Varsity Reds in one semifinal Wednesday while Erin won the other 44-34 over Wellington Heights.

Jaden Hamilton-El led Centre Dufferin with 17 points while Abel Sales had 14 and Thomas Moore added 12.

Xavier Guevarra had 13 for Norwell.

Ryan St. Denis connected for 17 points for Erin while Ethan Smith netted nine.

Centre Dufferin and Erin tied for first at the end of the regular season with 7-1 records, both teams recording wins at home over their championship-game opponent.

Erin defeated Centre Dufferin 48-43 Dec. 11 at Erin and Centre Dufferin downed Erin 58-57 Jan. 10 at Shelburne.

Tuesday’s final at Centre Dufferin is to start at 3:30 p.m.
