Centre Wellington Falcons runners-up in girls’ hockey

ORANGEVILLE – The Centre Wellington Falcons grabbed a second-place finish in the District 10 high school girls’ hockey league with a victory in the final game of the league’s regular season Tuesday.

The Falcons downed the Orangeville Bears 7-0 to claim the runner-up position. Scoring details from the game were not reported.

The Centennial Spartans finished atop the league standings at 9-1-0-0 and have a bye in the quarter-finals. Centre Wellington finished second at 8-2-0-0 with the Ross Royals third at 7-3-0-0, Guelph CVI Green Gaels fourth at 6-4-0-0, Bishop Macdonell Celtics fifth at 3-7-0-0, St. James Lions sixth at 2-8-0-0 and Orangeville seventh at 0-10-0-0.

The quarter-finals are set for Wednesday. Orangeville is to play Centre Wellington at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex at 2 p.m., Bishop Mac and GCVI are to meet at Exhibition arena at 2:30 p.m. and St. James and Ross are to tangle at the West End arena at 2:45 p.m.

Wednesday’s winners join Centennial in next week’s semifinals.
