Cody Beals triumphant in Ironman 70.3 Victoria

VICTORIA, B.C. – Cody Beals of Fergus captured his first Ironman 70.3 victory in Canada on the weekend when he claimed top spot in the Ironman 70.3 Victoria.

Beals completed the race in three hours, 54 minutes and 45 seconds to beat runner-up Brent McMahon of Victoria  by three minutes and 42 seconds.

Nathan Killarn of Vancouver was third in 4:02:50 while Taylor Reid of the Guelph Triathlon Project was fourth in 4:04:15.

Beals had been third in the swim and Reid sixth and Reid gained a place on the transition from the swim to the bike. Beals pedalled away in the bike, leading by more than four minutes at the finish of his cycling portion while Reid was up to fifth and he gained his other position by the halfway mark of the run.
