Creeks come back to top Mississauga North
MISSISSAUGA – The Guelph Silvercreeks rallied from a five-run deficit to top the Mississauga North Panthers 11-6 in Central Ontario Junior Baseball League play Tuesday night at Meadowvale Park.
The win was the sixth in a row in league play for the Creeks.
Mississauga North scored a run in the second inning and four more in the third before the Creeks started their comeback with three runs in the fourth. The Guelph side shot ahead for good with four runs in the top of the fifth before the hosts narrow the gap to a single run with one run in the bottom of the fifth. The teams then fought scoreless through three innings before the Creeks added their final four runs in the ninth.
Guelph also outhit Mississauga North 11-6 while the Panthers committed four errors and the Creeks committed two.
Tyler Randa hit three singles to lead Guelph at the plate while Austin Hardie hit two singles. Mason Copeland, Trystan Dennie and Stephen Whelan each hit a homer while Jordon Inkol hit a double and Brandon Arsenault and Joey Hasson each hit a single.
Liam Rivard started on the mound for the Creeks and he yielded an earned run off one hit and three walks in two innings. Liam Devine relieved for four innings and surrendered five runs, four earned, off four hits and four walks and he had four strikeouts. Alex Galletta pitched three scoreless innings, yielding a hit. He struck out two and didn’t walk anyone.
The Creeks are at 9-2-0 while the loss was the first in league play for Mississauga North. The Panthers are at 5-1-0.
Next league game for the Creeks is July 5 when they’re to host the Port Dover Clippers (3-3-0) at Hastings Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
The Creeks are to play the Ontario Royals under-18 squad of the Premier Baseball League of Ontario Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Hastings Stadium.
