Creeks score in every inning to top Halton Hills

GUELPH – The Guelph Silvercreeks connected for 17 hits as they dropped the Halton Hills Eagles 18-5 in Central Ontario Junior Baseball League play Wednesday at Hastings Stadium.

The Creeks scored at least one run in each inning and eight runs in the sixth helped end the game early. It was halted by the mercy rule after 6 ½ innings.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first inning before the Creeks led 3-1 at the end of the second, 7-3 after the third, 8-5 after the fourth and 10-5 after the fifth.

Austin Hardie collected five of the hits as he drove in three runs with a triple, two doubles and two singles. Ryan Malyk had two doubles and a single while Joey Hasson added a double and two singles. Brandon Arsenault and Nick Lannutti each had two singles while Scott Seifried and Jake Malyk each hit one single.

Peter Zytner started and picked up the win for the Creeks. He held Halton Hills to five runs, four earned, off seven hits and a walk in four innings. He had three strikeouts.

Alex Galletta relieved and pitched the final three innings. He kept Halton Hills scoreless during his stint as he gave up a single hit and had three strikeouts.

The Creeks lead the 14-team league with an 8-2-0 record while Halton Hills is tied for 10th at 2-8-0.

Next up for the Creeks is a game against the Stratford Nationals at Stratford Friday starting at 7:30 p.m.
