Cribbin’s goals help Patriots stay in Pollock semifinal

MOUNT FOREST – Ryley Cribbin struck for four goals to keep the Mount Forest Patriots alive in their Provincial Junior Hockey League Pollock Division semifinal playoff series with the Mitchell Hawks Wednesday night.

Cribbin’s goals led the Patriots to a 5-3 victory, their first win of the series. They trail the Hawks 3-1 in the best-of-seven set.

Cribbin scored a pair of goals less than five minutes apart before the game at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex was nine minutes old, then added his other two goals exactly five minutes apart in the third period.

Jack Vautour scored the other goal for the hosts early in the second.

Derek Elliott and Nick Jung tallied for Mitchell late in the second period while Tyler Pauli scored in the third.

Mount Forest led 2-0 at the end of the first and 3-2 at the end of the second.

Ryan Maksymyk assisted on three of the goals for the Patriots while Spencer Holt had two assists and Troy Oakley and Ostop Mostowy had one apiece.

The Hawks outshot the Patriots 34-32. Mount Forest went 1-for-6 on the power play while Mitchell went 1-for-3.

Mathieu Oullette picked up the win in net for the Patriots. Graeme Lauersen started in net for Mitchell, but was replaced early in the second period after Mount Forest’s third goal. Wyatt Nicholson went the remainder of the way and allowed one goal on 15 shots. He was charged with the loss.

Fifth game of the series is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Mitchell.
