Daws shines as Storm doubles Attack
OWEN SOUND – The Guelph Storm scored the final three goals of the game to down the Owen Sound Attack 4-2 in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Guelph goaltender Nico Daws stopped 43 shots and was named first star of the game as he picked up his first OHL win. Riley Daniels made 16 saves for the Attack.
The host Attack took a 2-1 lead early in the second and the Storm responded with their three goals, the first two coming in the second period and the third one coming in the third.
Owen Sound had the only goal of the first period, but the Storm led 3-2 at the end of the second.
Isaac Ratcliffe, Cam Hillis, Givani Smith and Cedric Ralph scored a goal apiece for the Storm while Garrett McFadden had two assists and Smith, Ratcliffe, Ryan Merkley, Hillis, Barret Kirwin and Keegan Stevenson had one each.
Jonah Gadjovich and Alan Lyszczarczyk scored for Owen Sound while assists were awarded to Brady Lyle, Sean Durzi and Marino Moro.
Owen Sound outshot the Storm 45-20 and both teams went 1-for-4 on their power plays.
The win leaves the Storm third in the Midwest Division at 12-9-1-2, a single point behind Owen Sound (13-9-0-2).
The game was the second of a three-in-three weekend for the Storm. They’re to host the London Knights (11-11-2-0) Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
