Eagles, Varsity Reds split boys’ basketball matches

PALMERSTON – The Emmanuel Christian Eagles and Norwell Varsity Reds split their District 4 high school boys’ basketball doubleheader with the Eagles winning in senior and the Varsity Reds taking the junior match.

In senior, Emmanuel Christian scored its first win of the season by edging Norwell 37-34. Scoring details were not reported.

Centre Dufferin Royals head into the Christmas break atop the league’s standings at 4-0. They’re followed by the Westside Thunder at 3-1, Wellington Heights Wolverines at 3-2, Norwell at 1-4 and Emmanuel Christian at 1-5.

In junior, Norwell downed Emmanuel Christian 34-16.

Connor McCulloch had 22 points for Norwell while Xavier Guevarra added eight.

Curtis VanWoudenberg had six for the Eagles while Cameron VanWoudenberg netted four.

Erin Raiders lead the league at 4-0 while Centre Dufferin is at 3-1, Wellington Heights is at 3-2, Norwell is at 2-3 and Emmanuel Christian is at 0-6.
