Early outburst helps Storm edge Kingston

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm struck for four goals in the first period, then held on to edge the Kingston Frontenacs 5-4 in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

Three of the Storm’s goals came in a wild span of 72 seconds in the first five and a half minutes of the game when the teams combined to score four goals.

Ryan Merkley opened the scoring for the hosts at 3:59 of the first, but Jason Robertson pulled Kingston even 13 seconds later. The Storm’s Cedric Ralph scored 10 seconds after that and teammate Cam Hillis extended Guelph’s lead 49 seconds after that.

Ralph and Hillis both finished the game with two goals, Ralph’s second at 7:10 of the third proving to be the game winner.
