Eight podium finishes for Gryphon rowers at Guelph/Western Invitational
GUELPH — Guelph Gryphon rowers had eight podium finishes at the inaugural Guelph/Western Invitational Regatta on a rainy Saturday at Guelph Lake.
Carly Zanatta led the way as she won the heavyweight women’s single.
Sarah Vantfoort and Kaitlyn Dennis took silver in lightweight women’s double.
The Gryphon team of Irene Tanneur , Ashley Hosker, Emma De Wit, Claire Benwood and Chantal Dzisiak were runners-up in lightweight women’s coxed four.
Zanatta was also second and Dennis third in lightweight women’s single.
Christine Flaherty and Kelsey Hill were third in heavyweight women’s double.
Myles Cameron and Caelan Weber-Martin placed third in heavyweight men’s double.
Ainsleigh Hennig, Olivia Shotyk, Zyra Edwards, Megan Kamachi and Erika Schwass were bronze medalists in heavyweight women’s coxed four.
Harriet Minc, Clayton White, Alexander Boland, Mykael Hughes-Mussio and Aidan Hickie-Bentzen finished third in heavyweight men’s coxed four.
The regatta, the first of five OUA meets on Guelph’s schedule, attracted entries from Brock, McMaster, UOIT, Toronto and Western. All crews raced in qualifying heats in the morning with the fastest four in each category advancing to the afternoon’s finals.
Next for the Gryphs is their annual friendly head-to-head race with McMaster Sunday at Hamilton.
