Elora Mohawks slip by Windsor

WINDSOR – Three consecutive goals by the Elora Mohawks in the second period allowed them to rally from a two-goal deficit to score a 5-4 victory over the Windsor Clippers in Ontario junior B lacrosse league play Saturday at the Forest Glade arena.

Windsor led 3-1 at the end of the first period and 4-2 midway through the second before Elora’s trio of goals netted in a span of four minutes and 54 seconds pushed the Mohawks ahead. The third period was scoreless.

Brett Harrison scored twice for the Mohawks while single goals were added by Dean Sealey, Ryan Mueller and Ryan Buller. Klayton Hoelscher had two assists and Sealey, Hyatt Welsh, Josh Rex, Buller, Owen O’Donnell and Kurtis Woodland had one each.

Jake Rosa and Brayden Mayea each had two goals and an assist for Windsor. Darian Delisle had two assists and Matt Fraser, Andrew Clark and Chase Kavanaugh each picked up one.

Windsor outshot the Mohawks 38-36 and were scoreless on both of their power plays while Elora went 2-for-3 on its power play.

Matt Humphrey was the winning netminde for Elora while Carson Hebner took the loss for Windsor.

The win was the second in as many days and league outings for the Mohawks.

The loss was the first for Windsor. The Clippers had opened their season with a 16-7 win over the London Blue Devils Thursday.

The Mohawks, who start the season with three consecutive road games, are to play the Owen Sound North Stars at Owen Sound Thursday. Game time is 8 p.m.

While the Mohawks have two home games in their first 10 games, they have two road games in the second half of the season.
