Emmanuel Christian alone in first in senior soccer

FERGUS – The Emmanuel Christian Eagles grabbed first place in the District 4 high school senior boys’ soccer standings by edging the Norwell Varsity Reds 1-0 at Victoria Park Wednesday.

That win combined with a 2-0 win for the Centre Dufferin Royals over the Westside Thunder left the Eagles all alone atop the standings. The Eagles are at 3-0-2 while Westside is second at 2-1-2 and Norwell and Centre Dufferin are tied for third at 1-3-1.

The league’s regular season is to wrap up Monday.

Aaron VanSydenborgh scored the lone goal of the game while his brother Jonah VanSydenborgh recorded the clean sheet for Emmanuel Christian.

 

Centre Dufferin 2 Westside 0

Sam Gayle and Matthew Surujbali scored a goal apiece for Centre Dufferin as the Royals collected their first win of the season. Alan Godbout had the shutout.

Westside 6 Centre Dufferin 0

T. Bradbury had a hat trick for Westside while single goals were added by J. Hanson, Ethan Meeker and R. Reid.
