Erin Mielzynski 23rd in first World Cup slalom of season

LEVI, Finland — Erin Mielzynski of Guelph started her FIS World Cup slalom season with a 23rd-place finish Saturday.

Mielzynski, a Bishop Macdonell high school graduate, finished with a two-run total of one minute, 56.11 seconds to finish 3.40 seconds behind the winner, Mikaela Shiffrin of the U.S.

Wendy Holdener of Switzerland was second in 1:53.38 while Petra Vlhova of Slovakia was third in 1:53.46.

Top Canadian was Marie-Michele Gagnon who was 17th in 1:55.79.

Mielzynski had been 30th after the first run, the final position to earn a second run. She had the 14th-fastest run on the second run.
