Etobicoke in opening-game romp in Rival Series

GUELPH – Etobicoke opened the Guelph Minor Baseball Association’s minor midget Rival Series tournament with a 16-0 victory over Sudbury in the AAA category Friday night at the Pearson baseball complex.

The tournament has attracted six teams in the AAA class and 12 in AA. However, the host association is not represented in either.

In other AAA games Friday night, Ottawa City doubled Oakville 4-2 and West Toronto dropped Peterborough 8-1.

In AA, Milton One defeated Halton Hills Two 9-2, Halton Hills One dropped Milton Two 12-1, Ancaster nipped East York 3-2, Barrie doubled Brampton 6-3, Mississauga North downed Markham 12-5 and Erindale blanked Leaside 6-0.

Round-robin play continues Saturday while the semifinals and final in both categories is scheduled for Sunday.

AA semifinals are slated for 9 a.m. Sunday with the final following at 11:30 a.m.

AAA semifinals are to go at 11:30 a.m. Sunday and the final is set for 2 p.m.
