Falcons advance to girls’ rugby A final

ORANGEVILLE – The Centre Wellington Falcons advanced to the A final in District 4/10 high school girls’ rugby after doubling the host Orangeville Bears in Tuesday’s semifinal.

The Falcons struck for four tries in the match while the Bears had two.

Scoring details were not reported.

The result avenged a regular-season loss to the Bears as Orangeville prevailed 26-7 at home April 23.

Centre Wellington is to play the defending champion Ross Royals in Thursday’s final at Victoria Park in Fergus. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

Ross defeated Centre Wellington 54-5 April 26 on its way to an undefeated 6-0-0 regular season. Centre Wellington placed third at 4-2-0.

Centennial 21 Bishop Macdonell 14

Centennial gained a berth in Thursday’s B final against the Guelph CVI Green Gaels with the win over Bishop Mac.

The winning Spartans scored three tries, one more than the Celtics.

Scoring details were not reported.

The B final is to start Thursday at 5:15 p.m.

Erin 43 Centennial 14

Erin scored its first win of the season. Justin McLaughlin led the Raiders with three tries and four converts while Jordan Obuch-Javornich scored two tries and Ryan Downey and Moses Santos each scored one try.

Zach Goodchild and Josiah Sklar had one try apiece for Centennial.
