Falcons, Crusaders, Spartans into girls’ hockey semis

GUELPH – The Centre Wellington Falcons, Lourdes Crusaders and Centennial Spartans grabbed their spots in next week’s semifinals by posting wins in the District 10 high school girls’ hockey quarter-finals Wednesday.

They join the Ross Royals, who finished first at the completion of the regular season and had a bye in the quarter-finals.

The semifinals will involve the teams that finished in the top four. Ross was first at 9-1-2 and was followed by Centre Wellington at 8-1-3, Lourdes at 4-4-4, Centennial at 3-3-6, St. James Lions at 4-5-3, Guelph CVI Green Gaels at 3-7-2 and Bishop Macdonell Celtics at 0-10-2.

The semifinals are set for Wednesday. Ross is to host Centennial at the Victoria Road arena at 3:30 p.m. while Centre Wellington and Lourdes are to clash at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex at 2 p.m.

Centre Wellington won without lacing up their skates as Bishop Mac forfeited the game.

The win combined with losses by St. James and Bishop Mac gives Lourdes a berth in the CWOSSA A/AA championship tournament at Kincardine March 5 and 6.
