Falcons hoops boys topped in OFSAA AAA opener

WINDSOR – The CWOSSA champion Centre Wellington Falcons of Fergus suffered an 87-50 setback in their opening game of the OFSAA provincial high school boys AAA basketball championship tournament Monday.

The Falcons, seeded 12th in the 18-team tournament, were defeated by the top-seed Pine Ridge Pumas of Pickering.

Zach Cudmore led the Falcons with 13 points.

Miles Hall and Drazens McLaughlin each had 13 for Pine Ridge.

The Falcons are to play sixth-seed Cathedral Gaels of Hamilton in the second round Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Winner advances to the quarter-finals at 5 p.m. while the loser is relegated to the consolation category and is to play at 4 p.m.

Cathedral downed 16th-seed St. Peter Knights of Ottawa 78-57 Monday.
