Fast start by Guelph Storm nets win over Barrie Colts

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm started in a hurry as they scored twice in the first six minutes of the game on their way to a 6-2 victory over the Barrie Colts in OHL play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

Those two goals were the only goals of the first period and Barrie narrowed the gap with the only goal of the second before the Storm fired home four more goals in the third, the first two coming before the period was seven minutes old.

Nick Deakin-Poot collected two goals for the Storm while Barret Kirwin, Ryan Merkley, Cedric Ralph and Givani Smith scored once each. Albert Michnac assisted on three of the goals while Merkley and Kyle Rhodes each had two assists and Dmitri Samorukov, Isaac Ratcliffe, Nolan Makkonen, James McEwan and Quinn Hanna had one apiece.

Zachary Magwood and Anthony Stefano tallied for Barrie.

The Storm outshot Barrie 40-29 and went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Colts went 1-for-3.

Liam Herbst was credited with the win in the Guelph net while former Guelph Hurricanes junior B netminder Christian Propp took the loss for Barrie.
