Fergus Force downed by Ville-Marie

FERGUS – The Fergus Force yielded four goals in each of the first two periods as they were dropped 11-3 by the Ville-Marie Pirates in Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League play Sunday at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.

Ville-Marie led 4-1 after the first period and 8-1 after the second.

Tommy Gramando, Blake Ward and Joseph Heidenreich scored for the Force while Kolton Maguire assisted on all three goals. Ward also had an assist.

Hugo Blum tallied four times for Ville-Marie while single goals were netted by Nicolas Bellerose, Gabriel Beauvais, Samuel Caron, Antoine Gsegner, Alex Montreuil, Maxime Burellier and Alexis Duguay. Bellerose had five assists while Mikeal Lachapelle and Caron had two apiece. Single assists were awarded to Blum, Etienne Boissonneault, Montreuil, Felix-Antoine Levesque and Vincent Dickner.

Ville-Marie outshot the Force 65-36. Trevor Mathias picked up the win in net for the Pirates while Nathaniel Merriman took the loss for Fergus. He started and faced 49 shots before being replaced by Kody Kushniruk early in the third period. Kushniruk made 14 saves.

The win evens Ville-Marie’s record at 5-5-0-0 while the first-year Force has lost all six games it has played.

The Force has almost two weeks away from league play until facing the Meaford Knights at Meaford Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. That’s the first game of five in nine days for the Force as they’re to host the South Muskoka Shield Oct. 22, play New Tecumseth Civics at Alliston Oct. 26, play West Nipissing Lynx at Sturgeon Falls Oct. 27 and host Almaguin Spartans Oct. 29.
