Fergus Thistles dumped by Six Nations

CALEDONIA – What a difference a week makes.

A week after the Fergus Thistles held the Six Nations Warriors during their Ontario junior C lacrosse league match at the Elora and District Community Centre, the Warriors pummelled the Thistles 24-2 in league play at the Haldimand County Community Centre.

Six Nations scored four times in just over six minutes to start the game. The hosts led 7-1 at the end of the first and kept adding in the second as they were up 18-2 by the end of the period.

Dean Sealey scored both goals for Fergus, the first at 7:30 of the first period and the second at 5:20 of the second. Six Nations scored 17 consecutive times after Sealey’s second goal.

Alex Bachly, Eli Mcleod and Adam Lantz each had one assist for Fergus.

The Thistles played the game with 15 players, five fewer than Six Nations.

Marshall Powless struck for six goals for the Warriors while Matt Miller had five, Todd Thomas Jr., Ryan Johnson and Trent Martin had three apiece, Owen Martin had two and Tyrese Staats and Martin Burning-Bomberry had one each. Johnson assisted on eight of the goals while Trent Martin had six assists, Jaxon Martin, Staats, Adam Martin and Marshall Powless three each, winning goalkeeper Mike Martin-Abel two and Riley Jamieson, Austin Henry, Thomas Jr., Owen Martin and Tehashitchele Powless one apiece.

Owen Bratton took the loss in the Fergus net.

The Thistles went 1-for-10 on their power play while Six Nations went 0-for-2.

After starting the season with four consecutive wins, the Thistles have lost three in a row.

Six Nations are 8-1-0 on the season.

The Thistles are to host the Clarington Shamrox (4-1-0) Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.
