Fields set for Grand River Raceway’s Battle of Waterloo, Battle of Belles
ELORA — The fields and post positions are set for the Battle of Waterloo and Battle of the Belles, the feature events on Grand River Raceway’s Industry Day celebration Monday.
The field for the $159,500 Battle of Waterloo was set through a pair of qualifying races. Top four from each of those races and one of the fifth-place finishers, decided in a draw, grabbed berths in Monday’s final.
Calvin K scored a one-length win in the first qualifier with Jody Jamieson piloting. Aston Hill Dave with Doug McNair, Silverinyourpocket with Sylvain Filion and Bet On Brett with Mike Saftic finished second through fourth respectively.
Sports Column with Chris Christoforou with the reins took the second qualifier and was followed by Happy Trio and Sylvain Filion, Classic Pro and Jody Jamieson and Mc Mach and Trevor Henry.
Dreamfair B J and Phil Hudon was fifth in the second qualifier and they won the draw for the final berth in the final.
There were three qualifying races for the Battle of the Belles with the top three in each advancing to Monday’s $107,800 final.
Aint Three OK with Trevor Henry driving won the first qualifier with Shanghai Sugar and Travis Henry second and Stonebridge Sundae and Mike Saftic third.
Bid Writer and James MacDonald took the second qualifier, followed by Village Jamie and Eddie Green in second and The Joy Luck Club and Mike Horner in third.
Doug McNair guided Loves Angel to the win in the third qualifier. Second went to Warrawee Speedy and Eddie Green while Miss Mittzie Bee and Chris Christoforou were third.
Also on Monday’s 11-race card are a pair of $105,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Leg races.
The OSS races are the second and sixth races on the card while the Battle of the Belles is Race 10 and the Battle of Waterloo is Race 11.
