First on Turf girls’ tourney to start Friday
GUELPH – Now it’s the girls’ turn.
The girls’ segment of Guelph Soccer’s annual First on Turf tournament at the University of Guelph is to start with five games Friday night.
Two of the host club’s squads are to be in action on the West Field as the Junior Gryphons Red under-13 squad is to tangle with Milton Magic Blue at 6 p.m. and the Junior Gryphons Black under-17 team is to take on Oakville Wild A at 8 p.m.
The tournament has attracted 83 teams spread across nine age groups.
The Junior Gryphs have three teams in under-9, two in under-10, two in under-11, one in under-12, one in under-13, one in under-14 and two in under-17.
Rockwood FC has a team in under-9 and another one in under-14 and the Puslinch Predators are represented in under-12.
Play continues Saturday with round-robin action in every age group.
Round-robin play in the older age groups, under-13 and older, wraps up Sunday and their semifinals and finals follow.
There are no playoff rounds in the younger age groups, under-12 and younger, and their round-robin games are all set for Saturday.
Sunday’s finals are set for 3:30 p.m. (under-17 on West Field), 3:45 p.m. (under-14 on East Field), 4:45 p.m. (under-13 on West Field and under-16 on East Field) and 6 p.m. (under-15 on West Field).

Flamborough Fusion vs. Woolwich Wolfpack at East Field, 7 p.m.
Burlington Bayhawks Yellow vs. Oakville Wild B at West Field, 7 p.m.
Oakville Wild A vs. Guelph Gryphons Black at West Field, 8 p.m.
