First win for Gryphon volleyball women

KINGSTON – The Guelph Gryphons picked up their first win of the OUA women’s volleyball season as they swept the RMC Paladins 3-0 at the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre Saturday.

The Gryphs won 25-19, 25-23, 25-18.

Jessica Gormley led the Gryphs with 11 kills, two aces, five digs and four blocks in the match while Michaela Hellinga had nine kills, seven kills and a block. Hazel Atkins had seven kills and eight digs while Laura Duncan and Lisa Wedel each served up two aces. Tara Tanasijevic had 16 digs and Duncan had 10 and Jessica Chung and Alex Curran each had two blocks.

Kara Stephan had nine kills, an ace, 19 digs and two blocks for RMC.

The Gryphs are seventh in the seven-team West Division at 1-5 while RMC is sixth in the East with the same record.

The Gryphs are to play the York Lions (2-2) at York Friday at 6 p.m.
