Forfeit win gives Ross first-place finish in girls’ hockey

GUELPH – A forfeit by the Bishop Macdonell Celtics Thursday handed the Ross Royals a first-place finish in the District 10 high school girls’ hockey league.

Ross was credited with a 1-0 win and that gave them a 9-1-2-0 record and 20 points, one more than the runner-up Centre Wellington Falcons. Both have completed their regular seasons.

Centennial Spartans and Lourdes Crusaders are tied for third with 11 points and both have a game to play after the two-week break for exams while the St. James Lions are fifth with nine points, Guelph CVI Green Gaels sixth with eight points and Bishop Mac seventh with two points. St. James and GCVI also have one game apiece left on their schedule.

By finishing first, Ross will get a bye in the quarter-finals.

Maddy Krusky scored both goals for GCVI while Paige Krusky had an assist.

Kathleen Roberts scored for Centennial with help from Morgan Dezell.
