Four locals win OFSAA wrestling medals, Cako gets gold

WINDSOR – Local wrestlers captured four medals at the OFSAA provincial high school wrestling championships Wednesday.

Tristan Cako of Guelph CVI won gold in the boys’ 38 kilogram class as he won by a technical fall over Matthew Vecchio of Maurice Lapointe of Kanata in the final. It was Cako’s fourth win of the tournament.

Pierre Arabadjian of Ross was runner-up in the boys’ 67.5 kg. class. He lost a 2-0 decision to Patrik Leder of St. Francis Xavier of Mississauga in the final.

Russell Dyce of Centre Wellington was the bronze medalist in the boys’ 89 kg. category. He took a 9-0 decision over Tirrell Beckford of Judith Nyman of Brampton in the third-place match.

Esmee Hotson of Centre Wellington won bronze in the girls’ 57.5 kg. class. She won the third-place match by a decision over Maggie MacGillivray of Thunder Bay’s Westgate.

Aiden Skerritt of Centre Wellington placed fourth in boys’ 44 kg.

Israel-Rain Roberts of Lourdes was fourth in girls’ 44 kg.

Donny Smart of GCVI was fifth in boys’ 57.5 kg.

Saneika Patterson of Ross finished fifth in girls’ 64 kg.
