Gargoyles rally in second half for opening win

GUELPH – The Grand River Gargoyles turned it on in the second half to down the Central Blues 91-69 in their Ontario Australian Football League opener Saturday at Margaret Greene Park.

The Gargs had led 26-12 at the end of the first quarter, but the Blues rallied to tie the score at 45-45 by halftime. The Gargs pulled away in the third quarter as the hosts went up 69-46.

Joshua Ross led the Gargs with six goals and four bests while Andrew Matthews had four goals and Nathan Millar, Brian Correia, Adam Day and David Aylward each had one goal. Millar had five bests while Correia had three, Jacob Martin had two and Jeremy Schwartzentruber had one.

The Gargs have another home game on their schedule Saturday as they’re to host the Toronto Dingos at noon at Margaret Greene Park.
