Gargoyles snap losing streak to end season

GUELPH – The Grand River Gargoyles put an end to an eight-game losing skid as they completed their Australian Football League Ontario season with a 132-45 victory over the Etobicoke Kangaroos Saturday at Margaret Greene Park.

The win was the first for the Gargs since they defeated the High Park Demons 104-37 June 10 in Week 3 of the 12-week regular season. The win was also the first victory at home for the Gargs since they opened their season at Margaret Greene Park with a 91-69 win over the Central Blues May 27.

The Gargs made their intentions clear early Saturday when they jumped to a 39-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. They were ahead 65-20 at halftime and 96-39 after the third quarter.

Grand River scorers were not reported.

Nicholas Brill and Seamus O’Connor scored three goals apiece for Etobicoke while Nicholas Papadakis added one goal.

The Gargs finish the regular season eighth with a 3-9-0 record and 55.23 percentage. Etobicoke finished seventh at 4-8-0 and 54.55 percentage.

Top five qualify for the playoffs.
