Gargoyles start early to leave Blues behind

TORONTO – The Grand River Gargoyles struck for seven goals in the first quarter on their way to a 110-12 victory over the Central Blues in AFL Ontario play Saturday at Humber College.

The Gargs led the Blues 45-0 at the end of the opening quarter and they stretched that lead to 61-6 at halftime. Grand River was up 92-6 at the end of the third quarter.

Nick Brooks and Sam Skelhorn had four goals apiece for the Gargs while Alex Butenko had two. Getting one apiece were Steve McLeod, Sam Wood, Brian Correia, Derek Govier and Mike Fischer.

Blair Ramsay and Nick Pan had one goal each for Central Blues.

The win lifts the Gargs to 3-5-0 while the Blues remain winless at 0-7-0.

Next up for the Gargs is a match against the Toronto Dingos (3-4-0) at Margaret Greene Park on Aug. 11 starting at noon.
