Gargoyles stumble against Hamilton

HAMILTON – The Grand River Gargoyles were handed an 86-38 setback by the Hamilton Wildcats in AFL Ontario play Saturday at Mohawk Park.

The host Wildcats led 21-11 at the end of the first quarter, 34-18 at halftime and 41-19 after the third quarter.

Andrew Matthews struck for two goals for the Gargoyles to raise his league-leading total to 17. Jacob Martin, Nathan Millar and Sam Skelhorn had one apiece.

Justin Kitney and Michael Walsh each scored three goals for Hamilton while Tim Wilson and Christopher Moning had two apiece. Getting one each were Adam Corak and Thomas Lally.

The Gargoyles are eighth in the league standings at 2-4-0 while Wildcats are ninth at 2-3-0.

The Gargoyles are to host the third-place Toronto Eagles (3-1-1) Saturday at noon at Margaret Greene Park.
