GCVI’s Reynolds/Sou qualify for OFSAA in badminton
KITCHENER – The Guelph CVI pair of Cassandra Reynolds and Emily Sou gained a berth in the OFSAA provincial high school badminton championship tournament through their performance at this week’s CWOSSA championship tournament at Conestoga College.
Reynolds and Sou finished as runners-up in the girls’ doubles class at the senior championship tournament. Top two in each category advance to the OFSAA tournament May 4 to 6 at Pain Court, near Chatham.
Yifan Wu and Yandi Hu of Waterloo CI won the class.
Waterloo CI won the senior team title while GCVI was second and Kitchener’s Resurrection third.
Reynolds and Sou were the only District 10 representatives to qualify for the provincial tournament.
The CWOSSA senior champions were Joseph Lu of Waterloo’s Sir John A. Macdonald in boys’ singles, Isabel Simmons of Brantford St. John’s in girls’ singles, Sam Lai and Ben Tan of Waterloo CI in boys’ doubles and Scott Parker and Sierra Olsthoorn of Waterloo CI in mixed doubles.
Sir John A. MacDonald won the junior team title while Woodland Christian of Breslau was second and Monsignor Doyle of Cambridge third.
Winning CWOSSA junior titles were Seth Lewis of Cambridge’s Glenview Park in boys’ singles, Sydney VanderHoef of Woodland Christian in girls’ singles, Eric Luo and Ian Naisby of Elmira in boys’ doubles, Ashvinya Moorthy and Emily Schnittke of Kitchener’s Grand River in girls’ doubles and Candace Rees and Andy Le of Brantford’s North Park in mixed doubles.
