GCVI’s Simon Chaves pins gold at OFSAA wrestling

BRAMPTON – Simon Chaves of Guelph CVI was the lone District 10 wrestler to claim an OFSAA championship at this week’s provincial high school wrestling championships at the Powerade Centre.

D10 wrestlers won three medals with a gold and two bronze.

Chaves prevailed in the boys’ 77 kilogram class. Dante Deluca of Windsor’s Holy Names was the silver medalist.

Israel Rain Roberts of Lourdes won a bronze medal in the girls’ 44 kg. class. Olivia Menard of Tecumseh’s L’Essor was the champion while Jessica Hong of Nepean’s Sir Robert Borden was the runner-up.

Pierre Arabadjian of Ross was the bronze medalist in the boys’ 67.5 kg. category. He finished behind gold medalist Dennis Chvedov of Newtonbrook and Martin Wieh of Hamilton’s Bishop Ryan.

Ben Jones of GCVI was fifth in boys’ 83 kg.

Kara Nixon of Centre Wellington placed fifth in girls’ 83 kg.

Donny Smart of GCVI was sixth in boys’ 57.5 kg.

Brampton’s Turner Fenton won the overall team title with 327 points while Pickering was second at 261. GCVI was tied for 11th at 76 while Ross was tied for 23rd at 47.

Turner Fenton also won the boys’ team title while GCVI was sixth and Ross 28th.

Pickering won the girls’ team title while Lourdes was 21st.
