GCVI’s surprise leads to third-place finish in senior volleyball

GUELPH – The Guelph CVI Green Gaels posted a surprise on the final day of the District 10 high school senior boys’ volleyball league’s regular season.

The Gaels slipped by the Ross Royals 3-2 at GCVI.

While the Royals were already locked into a second-place finish, the Gaels clinched third with the victory.

GCVI won 25-23, 25-20, 24-26, 18-25 and 15-11.

The Centennial Spartans finished atop the league at 11-1 and will get a bye in Monday’s quarter-finals. The other six teams will play. Ross was second at 10-2, GCVI third at 8-4, Lourdes Crusaders fourth at 7-5, Bishop Macdonell Celtics fifth at 3-9, Centre Wellington Falcons sixth at 3-9 (Bishop Mac wins the tie-breaker) and St. James Lions seventh at 0-12.

Monday’s quarter-finals have GCVI hosting Centre Wellington, Lourdes hosting Bishop Mac and Ross hosting St. James.
