Grand River Gargoyles trampled by Rebels

GUELPH – The Grand River Gargoyles were handed a 160-32 drubbing by the Toronto Rebels in Australian Football League Ontario play Saturday at Margaret Greene Park.

This one was effectively over at the end of the first quarter as the Rebels led 53-0. Toronto was up 90-6 at halftime and kept adding to its lead, extending it to 128-19 by the end of the third quarter.

Nathan Couldridge had two goals for the Gargs while Jeremy Schwartzentruber, Michael Gentile and Brandon Skinner had one apiece.

Michael Fabbri, Robert Tersigni and Kevin Duffy scored four goals apiece for the Rebels while Chris Antartis and Sam O’Sullivan had three each. Aidan Campbell, Daniel Stubbe and Daniel Keegan added two apiece while Phillip Wild also scored a goal.

The Rebels are second in the league at 3-0-0 and 250.40% while the Gargs fall to sixth at 2-2-0 and 71.04%.

In another game at Margaret Greene Park Saturday, the Toronto Eagles downed the Hamilton Wildcats 96-36.

The Eagles were ahead 27-18 at the end of the first quarter, 42-18 at halftime and 68-24 after the third quarter.

David Starr, Dean Gavin, Aaron Falcioni and Garrett Reynolds each had three goals for the Eagles.

Toronto Eagles are third in the league at 2-1-0 and 284.00% while Hamilton is ninth at 1-2-0 and 47.28%.

The Gargs are to play the High Park Demons at Humber College Saturday at 1 p.m. The Demons are 10th in the 10-team league at 0-4-0 and 31.27%.
